So I've decided to try my hand at doing a blog for the club. This will serve a few purposes. I intend on using it as a 'state of the club' page and as a place to chat about various topics. My posts will be admittedly unpredictable, subject to the whimsy of time and my ability to sit down in front of a computer.
Today, we will be talking about the goings on in the club, new gear, and future projects for the month of March as of March 3rd, 2024.
Club News
We have had a few new students this year, and I couldn't be more excited. The new class format seems to be helping our experienced people remember their fundamentals as well as show the new people our foundational techniques.
NEW GEAR
- We have purchased a pair of Steel training Ginuntings, and Lamont has purchased a Training blade of a more generic talabong like design. We're looking forward to testing this out for our friend Gary and helping him refine them (and probably buying more).
- Tak knives is sending us 4 of their Draco Compressor knives. They will be a good choice for future knife based seminars where the participants want to push the energy safely. They are also a low energy option for folks at Tipon Tipon who want to try knife fighting, but may be intimidated with other trainers.
WORK PARTY Saturday March 9th
First off, we are having a Work party to follow the Fight Fitness class (Fitness at 1100, work party at 1200). You are not required to come to the Fitness class, or the work party for that matter, but we would really appreciate the help if you can help out with the work party. The following weekend is Tipon Tipon, and since we're having guests over, lets get our house in order. We're going to do some basic cleaning, and tidying up of the area.
Here's my honey-do list so far:
Vacuum carpets
Tidy Entry way area / plan for registration
Mount Big screen TV in entry way
Moving the Loft stuff
Making sure the bathroom is in good shape
Possibly addressing the Garage doors
Maybe look at putting thresholds between the carpet and linoleum
Possibly moving some things into the sales case
This is FAR from a must do list, well, except for the vacuuming and bathroom. We might even consider painting the area where the mirrors were. Yup, I said were. Archie, Ben, Matt, and I took them off the wall yesterday. Archie was concerned about people in the metal chairs hitting them with the chairs. I do like having them, but the fragility is a concern, so I agree with the decision.
Tipon Tipon is March 17th.
We encourage all our fighters to attend, whether they fight or not, as watching will be good for your experience and development (and we could use the help with running the event).
Level 2 Women's Self Defense Seminar March 30th
This is the next level of the women's self defense seminar series. We are working hard to put the finishing touches on the revised curriculum for this with our seminar development team. This event will be all about using your hands and feet to create space and opportunity for in-fight weapon access.
I really appreciate you all. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think of the Blog idea, suggest things we should do for the Work party, or just put your thoughts down in general.
I look forward to training with you!
-Jim
